If you've ever purchased or have participated in a class from me, I often use brass components because quite frankly, it's more malleable than gold-filled or even plated jewelry.
But something happens when brass is exposed to various things (perfumes, oils, humidity, or even heat...) : it oxidizes or tarnishes.
Tarnish may seem like an ugly word, but honestly, it just means the brass grows dull and has less of a shine. And some ppl love that look-- but the good news is just because it naturally occurs, it doesn't mean your piece cannot be revived to its once shiny golden state!
So let's get started because it's super easy...
Step 1.
Fill an empty container with white vinegar and warm water (you want to submerge your brass in this soak, so make sure if you use 1 part white vinegar, use double the amount of water because vinegar is pretty strong.)
Once you have that ready move on to Step 2.
Step 2:
Submerge your brass piece into the soaking solution. If it's still on the chain, or bracelet, make sure to dangle the excess on the side. Because I use 14k gold-filled metal, the chain does not need to be cleaned this way.
Step 3:
Leave the brass piece to soak no more than 4 hours. The solution should do most of the work and when the piece is removed, you'll take the polishing cloth you were provided with to quickly polish your metal once out!
Step 4:
Once time has elapsed. Remove the piece and dry with a paper towel before polishing (wiping with your jewelry cloth).
Step 5:
Polish piece and enjoy the results ❤!
Hope this helps! And if you try this, please let me know what you think!
Until next time,
Shanika C.
